MATERIALS REQUIRED:

Columbia-Minerva
Wool 4-Ply Worsted (4 oz pull skein)
Color A (Beige) 3 skeins
Color B (Brown) 2 skeins
Color C (Black) 2 skeins
Color D (Turquoise) 1 skein
Color E (Navy) 1 skein

Needles: One “Boye” crochet hook Size J or K

Gauge: 7 sts (4 sc with ch-1 between each sc) to 2 inches

NOTE: When changing colors, always work off last 2 loops of last sc with new color. Afghan is worked in stripes of 4 rows of A, 2 rows of B, 2 rows of C, 2 rows of A, 2 rows of B, 2 rows of C, 1 row of D, 2 rows of E.

With A—ch 244.

Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 sc in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, in next ch work [1 sc and ch 1] 3 times for an inc group, skip 1 ch, 1 sc in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 sc in next ch, skip 3 ch, [1 sc in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch] 6 times, work an inc group in next ch, [skip 1 ch, 1 sc in next ch, ch 1] 5 times, 1 sc in next ch, skip 3 ch, 1 sc in next ch, repeat from * across, end ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 sc in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, work an inc group in next ch, skip 1 ch, 1 sc in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 sc in last ch, ch 2, turn.

Row 2: Skip first sc, [1 sc in next sc, ch 1] twice, an inc group in center sc of inc group of previous row, 1 sc in next sc, ch 1, 1 sc in next sc, * skip 2 sc, 1 sc in next sc, [ch 1, 1 sc in next sc] 5 times, ch 1, an inc group in center sc of next inc group, 1 sc in next sc, [ch 1, 1 sc in next sc] 5 times, skip 2 sc, [1 sc in next sc, ch 1] twice, an inc group in center sc of next inc group, 1 sc in next sc, ch 1, 1 sc in next sc, repeat from * across, ch 2, turn.

Note: The last sc of every row is worked in the 2nd sc from end. Repeat Row 2 for pat, working 2 more rows of A, 2 rows of B, 2 rows of C, 2 rows of A, 2 rows of B, 2 rows of C, 1 row of D. Fasten off. Join E at beg of D row, ch 2, work 2 rows of E. Repeat these 8 stripes 4 times more then work 4 more rows of A. Fasten off.

FRINGE: Wind C around a 6-inch cardboard. Cut at one end. Knot 8 strands in each point.
